Small loans, big difference

Kiva.org is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world.

The web site was started by Matt and Jessica Flannery in spite of many people advicing them otherwise. Today Kiva has 270,000 lenders and is considered one of the most innovative web sites on the web.

15m is very inspired by how Matt and Jessica Flannery have managed to merge two socio-economic trends--social networking and microfinance in one brilliant idea. At Kiva.org you can browse entrepeneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.

Armando Falconi received a loan in 2007 in order to invest in the purchase of merchandise for his business. The loan has since then been repaid.

The current repaiment rate at Kiva is 96%!

So now you know what to do!
